Even though we have Arbor Day, and all of us should plant a tree every Arbor Day, that is simply taking care of a small part of the problem. The truth is, trees are not being planted by many people. It would help, obviously, if everyone participated and planted a tree.

The world population is possibly more or less in the 7 billion mark. Naturally, you can never be certain of the precise count for this. But if every of those 7 billion individuals went out and planted a tree every Arbor Day, we would be replacing all the trees that were felled that year. The likelihood of this happening is remote.

tree removalHence, planting trees is something you need to consider if you are worried about the air we breathe and the environment. And I don’t mean to only go out once a year and plant a tree. Once a month is a good target or why not every week? The reason is because someone needs to make up for all the people using our resources but don’t want to plant a tree for whatever reason.

Figures suggest that anywhere up to 15 million trees are planted on Arbor Day. That still comes out to a 5 billion tree shortage each and every year. Alas, things are not improving.

I actually have a solution to the problem entirely although people should nevertheless go on planting trees whenever they can. If a law could be passed that each time a tree is cut down by logging companies, they then had to plant two new ones, this could truly make a huge difference.

But until somebody can turn this into reality, we are left to take care of replacing the trees ourselves. And it won’t take that much for us to increase the tree population each year. For instance, if merely 10% of the people in the world planted a tree monthly, it would cover the amount of trees that are chopped down every year. On average, that would be approximately 7 billion trees being planted each year. And that 1 billion excess trees are exactly what we need to get our tree population back to where it must be. Each person worried about the our planet can do his part by planting trees. Once again, it merely takes 10% of the world population to start making a difference. And you may be one of them.
